Skin Booster Treatment in Heanor for Hydrated Glowing Natural Looking Skin
I get asked about this almost every single week now. Someone will sit down for a consultation about something else entirely and halfway through they will say something like “my skin just looks tired lately” and that is usually where the conversation turns toward skin boosters.
It is not a new treatment by any means. It has been around for a while. But it has become one of those things people search for by name now instead of just describing the problem and waiting to see what gets suggested.
So I wanted to write something simple about it. Not a big clinical breakdown. Just what it actually is what it does and why so many people in Heanor have started asking about it.
What is it really
Okay so the short version. A skin booster is an injectable that uses hyaluronic acid to put hydration back into the skin. Your body makes hyaluronic acid naturally already. It is what keeps skin plump and bouncy when you are younger. As you age your body just makes less of it and that is part of why skin starts to look thinner or drier even if nothing else has changed.
We inject small amounts of it just under the skin using a very fine needle. That is really it. It is not filler. People mix the two up constantly and I understand why because they both use hyaluronic acid. But filler is thick and it is meant to sit in one place and hold a shape. A skin booster is thinner and spreads through the tissue instead. It is not adding volume anywhere. It is just hydrating from the inside.
Why people actually book this
Honestly every patient has a slightly different reason and I think that is worth saying because a lot of websites make it sound like there is one type of person who gets this done. There is not.
I have had patients in their late twenties come in just because their skin feels rough lately and they want to stay ahead of it. I have had patients in their fifties whose skin has genuinely lost a lot of its natural hydration over the years and they want something that actually addresses that instead of just another cream that sits on top.
Some people mention fine lines. Some people just say their skin looks dull. A few have said their skin “does not bounce back” the way it used to when they press on it which is honestly a pretty good way of describing what hyaluronic acid loss actually feels like.
What almost nobody says is that they want a big dramatic change. That is not really what this treatment is for and it is not what people are coming in hoping for either.
What happens during the appointment
I always start with a proper chat before anything else. I want to know what is actually bothering you about your skin and whether a skin booster is even the right fit because sometimes it is not. Sometimes something else suits the concern better and I will say so.
Once we have agreed it is the right treatment the actual process is pretty quick. I use a fine needle and place the hyaluronic acid just under the surface. Usually the cheeks and under the eyes get the most attention but I also treat the neck and sometimes the hands if that is where the dryness is showing up most.
The whole thing takes around half an hour start to finish. If someone is nervous about needles I can use a numbing cream first but most people tell me it just feels like small pinches. Nothing dramatic.
After your treatment
You might notice a few small bumps right where the injections went in. Totally normal. They go down within a day usually. Some people get a little redness too and that fades pretty fast on its own.
There is no real downtime here which patients tend to really like. Most people go straight back to their normal day. I usually just say avoid heavy exercise and alcohol for the rest of the day and try to stay out of strong sun while your skin settles a bit.
Results are not instant by the way. People sometimes expect to walk out glowing immediately and that is not quite how it works. Your skin will start feeling softer within the first week for most people. The actual glow and improved texture tends to build over the following few weeks as the hyaluronic acid settles in properly and your skin holds onto more moisture than it has been able to for a while.
How long does it actually last
This depends a lot on the person if I am being honest. Most patients get somewhere around four to six months before things start fading back. Skin type matters here. Lifestyle matters here too. How hydrated you keep yourself day to day genuinely makes a difference.
A lot of patients treat it as a small course rather than just one appointment and I usually recommend that anyway. Two or maybe three sessions spaced a few weeks apart tends to give a result that lasts longer and looks better than doing it just once. After the initial course it becomes more about the occasional top up every so often to keep things steady.
I will work out a plan with you specifically rather than just telling everyone the same thing because honestly not everyone needs the same amount of treatment.
Skin booster versus filler since people always ask
I get this question constantly so let me just lay it out plainly.
Filler changes shape. It adds volume. Lips cheeks deeper folds that kind of thing. It is structural work.
A skin booster does not touch shape at all. It is working purely on the quality and hydration of the skin itself. Nothing moves. Nothing gets bigger or fuller. It just gets healthier looking.
Plenty of my patients end up doing both eventually. Filler handles volume where it has been lost and the skin booster works on everything around it so the whole area looks healthy and not just filled. I am happy to talk through what combination actually makes sense for your face specifically during a consultation rather than guessing over the phone.
Is this something you would actually benefit from
Honestly if your skin feels rough or tight more often than it used to that is usually a sign. If you have started noticing lines that genuinely were not there a year or two ago that is another one. If you catch yourself looking tired in the mirror even after a proper night of sleep that is worth mentioning too.
You do not need to be a certain age for this. I have treated people in their twenties and people well into their sixties for the exact same reason which is just wanting their skin to feel and look healthier again.
A proper consultation still matters though. I always go through medical history and what you are actually hoping for before agreeing this is the right treatment. I am not going to book someone in just because they asked for it by name if I think something else would actually help more.
Why patients keep choosing to come see me for this
I trained as a dentist originally and people are sometimes surprised that matters for facial aesthetics but it really does. Years spent working with the muscles nerves and fine structures of the face and jaw gives a level of precision that genuinely helps when you are placing injections this close to delicate areas.
What patients tend to say after their first visit with me is that they felt informed the whole way through. Nothing rushed. I explain what I am doing as I go rather than just working in silence and hoping you trust me blindly. It is your face. You should know what is happening to it.
I am based at Heanor Dental Care on Ilkeston Road in Heanor Derbyshire.
Quick questions I get asked a lot
Does it actually hurt?
Most people say it feels like small pinches. Not painful exactly just a bit odd. Numbing cream is available if needles make you nervous.
When will I actually see something?
Some hydration improvement within the first week usually. The fuller glow takes around two to four weeks to really settle in.
Will it look obvious that I have had something done?
No and that is kind of the point. You should just look like a healthier more rested version of yourself. Not different. Just better.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Definitely. A lot of my patients pair it with anti wrinkle treatment or filler depending on what their overall goal actually is.
How many sessions do most people need?
Usually two to three to start with spaced a few weeks apart and then occasional top ups after that to keep results going.
If your skin has just been looking a bit flat lately
You do not need a complicated fix for that most of the time. Sometimes your skin just needs hydration put back in that it has slowly stopped holding onto on its own as you have gotten older.
If any of this sounds like you book a consultation with me at SJ Dental & Facial Aesthetics in Heanor and we can talk through whether a skin booster makes sense for what you are dealing with.
